Bag of marbles…

Story:  One day and in passing, a friend has suggested “if it is God’s will”.  He didn’t mean anything by it, simply a saying when hoping for a certain outcome to a particular situation.  Unfortunately it does infer we have no control over the particular situation we are presently faced with.  Instead, “if it is God’s will” it will happen a particular way or produce a particular outcome.  Basically this phrase eliminates our responsibility by acknowledging we don’t have the final word.  We’ve had many conversations with regards to the bible, God, and the whole heaven and hell thing.  He knows I haven't made my mind up as to the outcome of my life and what may and may not happen.  As a matter of fact, I have said to him many times “I am the perpetual doubting Thomas”.  An attempt not to dissuade his beliefs nor add credence to a subject and opinion I presently do not agree with; rather, an effort to ‘beg off’ from the conversation without lending an opinion on religion one way or the other.  I’m sure my friend doesn’t mean it, but I do not like being pressured in any way, and for someone to grasp the opportunity in a conversation to repeatedly interject an altering view to me is more than bothersome, it’s simply pushy.  Many religious minded people do this when they find a person who doesn’t follow their beliefs.  Unfortunately, many don’t even realize they are doing it.  I very often find myself envious of those who have peace of mind.  Those who truly have found the answers to their questions; at least to the point they feel peace within themselves with regards to life and death.  I have yet to experience feelings they have come to love and enjoy; including the mental and physical peace that comes with it.  I simply have too many questions I have yet to find answers for.  Anyway, today, “I am the perpetual doubting Thomas” did not work.  Finally, I decided to send him on a different road.  Give him something to think about which I find equally interesting.

I said to him, “maybe, just maybe we are simply a bag of marbles.”  He said what?  I repeated myself.   Then I elaborated.  “Do you know that every time you think, every time you dream, speak, or move, you are changing the universe we live in?”  I went further.  You have studied biology in college, right?  He said yes.  Ok, then you know every time you have a thought, the process that occurs in your brain is a complex chemical and hence, a molecular process, a movement of atoms and the like?  When you think, molecules and atoms physically move in your brain.  Are you aware of that?  He was.  Then I explained that every atom and molecule either touch or affect one another.  Like marbles in a bag, I cannot physically move one without moving all the others.  It’s simply impossible.  It is my contention the same situation exists with all molecules and atoms in the universe.  An argument of course is “what about space” or ‘what about the space between the molecules”?  I went on to explain that in my world, if something like molecules, atoms, electrons or anything else which exists in the universe ‘in suspension’ it must be touching something else in order to achieve its position. The only other scenario is if these particles have magnetic fields or valences; and are held ‘in suspension’ due to their magnetic influence upon each other to varying degrees. To mentally move a group of molecules in a thought process, each individual on earth, and each living thing alters every other molecule’s and atoms position in the universe!  I went on.  Consider if you will for one moment; if this is so, and if this makes sense to you.  If there was anyone or anything else in the universe listening for sounds and signs of life like we are, they would not have to hear us or see us to know we exist and what we are thinking, saying and doing.  All they would have to do is construct an apparatus that records the movement of molecules and atoms at their end of the universe to know what we are thinking.  Kind of like pool balls on a table sitting in the rack.  To move one is to move them all.  Consider this.  Sitting on a table in a row are three blocks of wood.  The first one on the left is green.  The second one to the right of the green one is red.  The third one to the right of the red one is blue.  All three are in a straight line, and none are touching.  Now, and like the molecules and atoms in our universe, I will push the blue one into the red on and subsequently the red one into the green one.  By doing this simply maneuver, I have moved all the molecules and atoms surrounding and certainly in front of the green one.  They are forever changed.  They will never be the same.  Now, if I were someone watching or listening  with an apparatus which recorded molecular movement, I would know, regardless of how far away I am, that someone moved the blue, red, and green molecules because they moved the purple one at my end.  It may be true there is empty space between atoms and molecules to stop any contact movement but I doubt it.  I do not believe there is nothingness anywhere in the universe.  Now if I recorded this molecular movement just one time; from then on I would know every time you did that, again and again, simply by keeping an eye on my purple one.  Now, if moving the blue one into the red one and the red one into the green one was a mental (molecular) thought process in a human brain when the brain was thinking about space flight; I wouldn’t even have to see or hear them to know, every time my purple molecule millions of light years away moved, someone, or something was thinking about space flight because my purple molecule moved where I am.  Just how many molecules and atoms moved in this chain, millions of miles out in space when we exploded the atom bomb?  Now, I know this is a simplified description of a thought process, but isn't it interesting when you think of it?  Every time you have a thought or open your mouth and speak, you are moving many billions of molecules and atoms in the universe and the universe will never be the same for it!  Of course, I am assuming there is something to move in the vacuum of space. Even though we cannot measure something, (like what exists between planets)  certainly we are not so arrogant that we think there is nothing there?  Tonight when you have your dreams, remember, to do so is to molecularly change the whole universe, like marbles in a bag.  All the best.  RJ
