It

Story:   I can feel it tickling the nape of my neck and dancing across my sweaty chest.  I have always wondered if it watches from afar and then races to my rescue just when I need it; or am I simply standing in its way?  It arrives at no particular time, just when it feels like it.  Summoning suits no purpose, nor do inaudible threats on a hot day.  It’s been hanging around for three days now and seems to follow the sun.  Although I believe it hides out of sight in the shadows before letting its presence be known, I cannot be sure.  I do know it to be a cool character.  I’ve strained my eyes trying desperately to see it hiding in the dark, to no avail.  I even hid myself under a narrow, dark, outcropping once to catch it by surprise.  Sure enough, it came with the afternoon sun.  It stayed with me throughout the day, and then slowly moved onto the plateau following the sun.  There was no surprise.  I chastised the sun for chasing it away.  Like childhood sweethearts, oblivious to their surroundings, the two of them slowly, meandered across the plateau and out of sight.  Company is not something in abundance on the plateau and I am an example of yearning.  I do have solace in knowing it will return, because it has found a dear friend who will always appreciate its company.

For lack of a better word, I will call this traveler of the plateau, ‘Breeze’.  RJ
