Who's to blame?
I will always be amazed by the person
who never sees the obvious. Or for that matter, never considers for a
moment there is no conspiracy, only random evolution. To consider for a
moment that evolution has no 'plan' is frightening for some people. To
suggest evolution is no more than a series of random results is heresy. To
say life is no more than a crap shoot is to alienate yourself from those who
fear the unknown. They would rather think there is good and bad,
punishment and rewards. If I hurt you, I will be punished...maybe not
here, but we all die, don't we? And God will be waiting to send me to
hell. If I love you, I will get stuff! Gold streets, maiden women,
fairy wings, and list goes on. Most people know the wealthy (the haves)
created this horror and fear to subdue (the have nots) into submission.
There are many more (have nots) then there are the bullets of (the haves), so
they needed something special. Heaven and hell seemed the right thing at
the time. If you don't attack us in our big castles, you will be rewarded
when you die. If you do attack us in our castles, you will be punished
when you die. You would have thought for one minute, when the church
started torturing humans (the most obvious being a man called Jesus) and
marching the bloody bodies through the streets (like Jesus) someone would have
said, what the hell is this? The wealthy who control the churches are the
ones torturing people, not us! If what they say is true, why don't they
follow its teachings? You would have thought just for one second, someone
would have said, they're just trying to scare us into submission so we wont get
mad and kill them as tormentors and torturers of man. As an example, I
have tried to explain a notion that slowly crept into my thinking process until
clarity resulted in this short story. It started some weeks ago, when I
was working alone in the yard. The 'notion' had not yet fully explained
itself to me. That is to say the complete thought had not yet
materialized, much like a complete paragraph. Tiny bits of light...tiny
bits of 'notion', bits of information and materialization began to appear.
Kind of like watching something dark approaching in a heavy fog. You can't
quite make out what it is, but there is something coming towards you.
Something with form, shape, and purpose. You squint, and stare.
There it is....no....yes.... And finally a thought is in your thinking
process. That day, and many days afterward those tiny bits of information
finally formed a complete paragraph. Without putting to fine a point on
it, the theory goes something like this....actually more of a question.
Did prehistoric man have Alzheimer's? Did he have
cancer? Meningitis? Or any of the hideous organisms invading out
bodies today? Or any of the failing organs and/or communication systems
inherent to our species? When we lived the long and lustrous life span of
25 years.....or when Columbus landed on the north American continent....35 years
old, did we have the problems we do now? My point being, just maybe we are
our own worst enemy. Perhaps none of these ailments existed in the quality
and quantities we see today because our bodies did not last long enough for them
to multiply and evolve themselves. Our body died and senesced before
they had a chance to multiply and evolve. We now have various
organisms that have made the human body, their host. They feed off us, and
live off us as long as we are alive. What happens to cancer when we die?
Where does is go? It goes no where. Why?, because cancer needs
oxygen and moisture. It needs our oxygenated blood to survive. Most
people do not know, we all have cancer cells within us. They are passed
from one person to the next when life begins. However, much like the
apical maristem of a tree (the enzymes passed down from the upper most tip of a
growing tree, telling the rest of the tree not to follow), not to grow as tall.
A tree grows from the top. The cancer cells within your body do not 'turn
on' because they are being told not to. They are being told not to
compete. A problem arises when for a number of reasons (the cell
sending the message becomes malignant/broken) and stops sending the messages.
That is why, when doctors cut out cancer cells, they cannot be sure the other
cells within the body will not 'turn on' because they have eliminated the ones
sending 'messages' to the remaining dormant cells. Many times a person
will die of cancer, but not from the originating cells, but from new 'turned on'
cells that no longer receive the enzyme telling them not to. This being
said, if we did not live as long, the cancer cells would not have the time to
mutate, and/or grow.
Are we just now experiencing new forms of old enemies because we are providing longer living hosts? Simply said, would cancer or Alzheimer's be a very rare occurrence if we died earlier? Now that we are living to be 50 - 60 - 70 - 80 - 90 - 100 years, are we giving our biological attackers that much longer to evolve and become stronger in their mission?
